WHAT YOU WILL SEE DURING YOUR VISIT IN THE GORGES DU TARN: LANDSCAPES AND GREAT NATURAL SITES! Jewels of southern Aveyron, the Tarn gorges, are located on the edge of the Grands Causses Regional Natural Park, in the heart of the Causses and Cévennes territory, classified as World Heritage by UNESCO. With its very distinctive ruiniform rocks sculpted by time, the submediterranean vegetation which dresses these places provides perspectives as rare as they are exceptional on the Causse Noir, the Causse Méjean, the cliffs and rivers. Your eyes will never stop marveling. UNUSUAL PERCHED VILLAGES Between troglodyte villages and medieval hilltop fortresses, the Tarn gorges are home to a remarkable built heritage, proof of a past rich in history, often located on the sunny slopes. You just have to look up to admire the castle of Peyrelade, the village of Mostuéjouls, or the hamlet of Saint Marcelin, of which you can discover the traces of a troglodyte existence by following the hiking trail (PR 41) from the village of Liaucous. We strongly recommend that you visit these places during your stay. THE MAJESTIC GORGES DE LA JONTE Little twin sister of the Tarn gorges, the Jonte river which gave its name to the gorges is the tributary of the Tarn. A little narrower than her big sister, she is nonetheless magnificent. Famous rocky chaos such as the Chinese vase or the Sèvre vase mark these gorges with their majesty. To discover these buildings defying weightlessness during a hike, all you have to do is go to Le Rozier, the starting point of a route that will remain etched in your memory. And as in the Gorges du Tarn, the Gorges de la Jonte are home to a large colony of vultures and other raptors in full freedom.
